Available Contract Coating Processes

Your project may call for corrosion resistance, low friction, impact protection, or a combination of all three. At PCTM, we offer four industrial coating processes, each suited to different performance requirements and part geometries.

Electrostatic Powder Coating

Powder particles receive a positive charge and are sprayed onto grounded metal surfaces. After heat curing, the result is a durable, even, chip-resistant finish. Available in both batch and conveyor line formats.

Fluid Bed Powder Coating

Heated parts are dipped into a fluidized powder bath. The melted particles form a fused, protective film across the entire surface. This method is well-suited for parts requiring uniform, full-coverage protection.

PTFE and Fluoropolymer Coatings

Low-friction coatings include Teflon, graphite, molybdenum disulfide, ceramic-metallic compounds, and other fluoropolymers. Applied as a liquid spray or powder coating. Engineered for parts requiring reduced friction, chemical resistance, or release properties.

Plastisol (Liquid Vinyl) Coatings

A PVC-based coating that delivers a thick, soft, and durable protective finish. Applied by dipping and can be layered to achieve a coating thickness typically between 1/8 inch and 1/4 inch. Ideal for molded parts or components with irregular geometry.

The Contract Coating Process: From Pre-treatment to Delivery

Consistent results start before the powder ever touches your part. PCTM’s conveyor line includes a fully integrated 5-stage pretreatment system designed to prepare surfaces thoroughly before coating is applied.

The 5-Stage Pretreatment System

1Acid etch removes laser scale and light rust from ferrous surfaces.
2Fresh water rinse. Stage 1 & 2 can be bypassed for light-duty parts.
3Iron phosphate conversion coating via buffered wash solution.
4Second fresh water rinse.
5Sealant application acts as rust inhibitor and supports nonferrous substrates.

Dryoff and Inspection

After pretreatment, parts enter an 80 ft. dry-off oven. Inspection stations before and after ensure proper drainage and coating readiness.

Spray Application

A dual-operator spray booth ensures full coverage from both sides simultaneously, eliminating thin spots and improving efficiency.

Curing

An 85 ft. cure oven combines forced-draft convection with infrared boost heating to fully cure even high-mass parts.

Industries We Proudly Serve

PCTM provides contract powder coating services across demanding industrial sectors:

  • Aerospace
  • Architectural manufacturing
  • Military and defense
  • Agricultural equipment
  • Industrial machinery

Your industry has specific finishing requirements, and your coating partner needs to understand that.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

When you work with our team at Precision Coating, our quality measures include:

โœ“ Pre- and post-dryoff oven inspection stations

โœ“ Two-operator spray booth coverage for consistent application

Frequently Asked Questions About Contract Powder Coating Services

Whether you are evaluating PCTM for a long-term contract coating services partnership or scoping a high-volume project, these answers cover the questions procurement managers and engineers ask most.

What is the difference between custom and contract powder coating?

Custom powder coating typically refers to one-time or occasional finishing work, often for individual parts or small runs. Contract powder coating services are built around a structured, ongoing relationship. Your specifications, quality standards, and production schedules become part of the coating provider’s workflow. PCTM focuses on long-term manufacturing partnerships designed to support your supply chain consistently, not one-off projects.

How does PCTM handle pre-treatment for contract orders?

Every part processed on PCTM’s conveyor line goes through a fully integrated 5-stage pretreatment system. This system was specifically designed to remove laser scale and surface contamination before any coating is applied.

What is your typical lead time for high-volume contract work?

Lead times vary based on part complexity, coating process, volume, and current production scheduling. The best way to get an accurate timeline for your project is to submit a request for quote with your part details and volume requirements. Our team will respond with a realistic production estimate.

Do you offer logistical support or drop-shipping?

Pickup and delivery service is available for select clients within a 50-mile radius of PCTM’s facility in Denver, PA. For clients located outside that range, logistics options can be discussed based on your project scope and delivery requirements. Contact the team directly to explore what works for your operation.
